Something happened in Tuesday’s Badger South Conference game against Monona Grove that has never happened in head coach Jon Nedelcoff’s career – as a coach, an assistant or a player. The Oregon boys basketball team committed no turnovers. The ball handling not only helped push the Panthers to a 60-40 win, but it helped the offense have one of its better games since mid-January.

A packed gym, which included five decades of alumni wrestlers, erupted in cheers for the five seniors on the Oregon wrestling squad before last Friday’s dual meet against Badger South rival Fort Atkinson. Kyle O’Brien (120 pounds), Klint Grover (160), Eric Walsh (170), Max Sampson (195) and Chris Hans (220) were all honored with speeches and plaques before the match. Despite a 46-30 loss, O’Brien said it was a night to remember for the seniors.

Boys hockey: Rematch against Stoughton ends in stalemate

After 16 years at Stoughton, no one would have been surprised if first-year Oregon co-head coaches Rick Fleming and Brad Mastenbrook took a step toward the Vikings locker room or bench last Saturday. Having already defeated Stoughton 4-0 early this season, Fleming didn’t have any doubt about the effort the Vikings would put forth on their home ice. It was Oregon’s task to try and match that intensity, which they did at times, but not consistently enough as they skating to a 1-1 stalemate.

The MSO Icebergs saw firsthand last Saturday what it takes to be a top-ranked team in the state as they traveled to Mosinee to face the third-ranked Central Wisconsin Storm.
